ION performs numerous surveys into online education. In addition to our various
program evaluation surveys, we are presently conducting research into the
practical effects of online education.
Online Education Surveys
Started in 2003, ION has been collecting data from our participants concerning
the effects of their involvement in our program on their practice, both
face-to-face and online. The program includes pre-program surveys, surveys
of those receiving the Master Online
Teacher Certificate, and on the horizon,
2-year post surveys of those having received the Master Online Teacher
Certificate. The pre-survey is available to anyone
interested in participating in this program. You will first need a MyMVCR
Account.
Online Presence
Virgil Varvel is currently engaged in long term case studies looking at embodiment
and personae in the online environment and their effect on knowing. Anticipated
completion of this project is 2007.
Program Quality
ION has conducted evaluations of its major programs including the MVCR
courses to determine their effectiveness and to improve their quality.
In the summer of 2003, ION published a research paper on an overview of the
evaluation of our program that led to the title of Exemplary Faculty
Development Program by the SLOAN-Consortium.

MVCR 2002 Impact Study
In July of 2002, The Illinois Online Network conducted a survey
to measure the satisfaction of faculty teaching online. An e-mail message
was sent to faculty and staff who had registered for a MVCR course, asking
them for feedback to help determine how MVCR courses have affected online
faculty satisfaction and confidence and have improved the quality of online
courses. 79 Web-based forms were completed. The survey was open for two
weeks.
