Mary Wall
I have recently retired as Dean of Academic Computing and Distance Education
from Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey. While I was an administrator
for 11 years (Business Department Chair, Associate Dean and then Dean)
I consider myself first and foremost a teacher, and I have taught at least
one course every semester.
I taught my first online course, a three-credit Psychology elective
"Self Management" in Fall 1996, using the Internet and email.
After that I kept teaching, making use of the newer software tools. I've
taught "Introduction to Computers" "Principles of Guidance
for Parents and Teachers" "The Internet and the WWW" and
"Principles of Marketing" online. I've used Serf, WebBoard,
WebCT and BlackBoard. I am convinced that having classes online increases
access to quality education for the student.
When New Jersey was seeking for ways to train more online teachers,
we looked at various sources and concluded that the ION materials were
superior. New Jersey purchased the rights to the materials for "Online
Learning: An Overview" from ION, and I have taught the course for
New Jersey faculty.
I have a BA in chemistry (I was a high-school chemistry teacher for
seven years), an MA in Student Personnel Services (I was a high-school
guidance counselor for ten years), an MBA (I was a Business/CIS faculty
member for six years), and a Ph.D in Computer Technology in Education
(I was an administrator for eleven years). My two children, who are now
adults, say they never remember a time when I wasn't taking a class!
See you online!
